Conference on Humanistic Buddhism

The first FGS Mabuhay Temple Conference on Humanistic Buddhism and Cultural Pluralism was held in 2012. It is aimed to develop a deeper understanding of Humanistic Buddhism and other fields

of study that underlie the core values of wisdom, compassion, and diligence to push for understanding among different cultures and to see similarities amidst differences and differences that highlight the uniqueness of each and every thought, culture or paradigm.

The conference was well accepted by both delegates and participants with more than 30 paper presenters and international plenary speakers, and more than 300 participants who attended the 2-day conference. Speakers and presenters came from various countries such as Taiwan, India, Israel, and the United States.

On its second year, the conference focused on awareness of the indigenous cultures of the Philippines and on aesthetics. It highlighted the plenary lecture of Venerable Ru Chang, the Director of the Buddha Memorial Center. As it emphasized on culture and the arts, independent theatre and dance organizations such as Sipat Lawin Inc., Kolab Co., Transitopia Dance Commune, Destiyero Theatre Commune, among others, have presented their new works as part of the performances of the conference.

The implementation of the project has been transferred to Guang Ming College in 2014.
